On my 3D printer(cube)'s cartridge there is a chip with only two pins. The 3D printer can through those 2 pins tell how much plastic it's left in the cartridge.
My question is:
How can a chip power up, recieve, send information with only 2 pins?

Construct a byte array containing your data. Remember that each byte can only go up to 255, so if your int is larger than that you'll need to use multiple bytes per int.
Then on the arduino
while (Serial.available() > 0) {
Serial.read() //now do something with this byte
}
This will loop until there are no more bytes to read, and each time it will read one byte.
The probable problem is that the USB VCC and BPSS (Breadboard Power Supply Stick) 5V output are hard connected together and the regulator on the BPSS acts as a load to the USB 5V supply. See "Vcc back-feed" diagram below.
Breaking the 5V feed between the two power supplies MAY be all that is required.
This may cause "issues if the two nominal 5V supplies are substantially different in voltage but will probably work OK.
Care needs to be taken in choosing which items work on which supply.
An active switching arrangement that connected the two supplies only when both were powered may be useful but should not be necessary.

In addition to one wire, there is a possibility that the sensor isn't an IC at all, but some passive device. it could be some sort of strain gauge that weighs the filament if it rests on it, or so. I guess I'd have to see it :)
