Electrical – EAGLE Names not showing up on board after footprint update

I added the >NAME attribute to the footprint of a device and now the names are not shown on the board.

I have already tried to update the library (with library –> update all) and also the replace function.

But when I place the same part again the name is shown, only the old ones wont update, even with the replace function the names are still not shown.

Now I found the answer myself.

When the REPOSITION tool is selected, click on the parts where the name is missing and then the name shows up. Also when a group is selected it's working, just right click and Reposition:Group.

So, this seems like a silly thing, but apparently if you have something in the Dimension layer (which is where I drew the actual component), Eagle thinks it needs to be routed around. The problem was solved by pushing everything into the tPlace layer. Not ideal since I don't want component dimensions mixed with my courtyards, but I can figure out a way around that, ideally.

Eagle has a command for updating components from their libraries.

update;

(will update all components from their respective libraries).

If you would rather only update components from a specific library, do as follows:

update mylibrary;

This way you'll only have to re-route the pins that have the wrong connection.
