I'm taking apart an old Pioneer stereo amplifier (model 303R). I'm having difficulty unpluging a couple of wire ribbons from the PCB.. I tried pushing, pressing it from the sides, pulling (i thing i damaged the wires when trying to wiggle it while pulling) to no avail… what would be the correct way to disconnect them?

You may use an new IDE connector and attach it on the ribbon cable (I'm supposing they are using the standard size of wires). This way you can create a derivation without damaging the cable.
Another good practice is to use a buffer for all the pins. I know its a bit costly but otherwise the input impedance could cause interference in the system.
It looks like the connector is part of the Molex PicoFlex surface mount series. All connector headers, housings, and mates can be found here.
The only thing I see in the pictures is the blade pins aren't staggered, but that just might be laziness by molex. I looked through all "blade pin" style connectors on digikey and this is the only match I could see.

Those are soldered wire to board connectors. They can't be unplugged. Either unsolder them or cut them.
