Magento – Cross-sell product is not showing in the product detail page

In product detail page the following code is written to display the cross-sell product which are set from the admin side..

But it is not showing anything although there are cross sell products present in the admin side and the cross-sell products are instock.

I looked into its respective block i.e.

app/core/code/Mage/Catalog/Block/Product/List/Crosssell.php

and the function where the product collection is formed is as follows..

I got nothing related to cross sell product while doing var_dump($product).

So how to check if there is something missing by which the crossell products are not coming ?
Is there any other method of getting crossell products ?

You can build your $param array by merging the existing data with the products already assigned as crosssells.
You can get a list of the crosssels like this:

$crosssells = $product->getCrossSellProducts();

This will give you a collection with the products. To turn it int an array in the same form as $param you can do this

$param = array();
$crosssells = $product->getCrossSellProducts();
foreach ($crosssells as $item) {
    $param[$item->getId()] = array('position' => $item->getPosition());
}

Now you have in $param all the existing crosssels in a 'friendly' format.
All you need to do is to add your new crosssels:

if (!isset($param[$magentoID])){ //prevent elements from beeing overwritten
    $param[$magentoID]= array(
         'position'=>1
    )
}

After this just continue with your code:

$product->setCrossSellLinkData($param);
$product->save();
