Magento – Display Custom Attribute on Category Page

On our category page I want to echo an custom attribute with attribute code "homepage_description".

I tried this, but that does not work:

<?php echo $_product->getHomepageDescription() ?>

I also tried this:

<?php echo $_helper->productAttribute($_product, $_product->getHomepageDescription(), 'homepage_description') ?>

How can I make this work?

Try to edit attribute from catalog->attributes->Manage Attributes and open your attribute and change the below option to Yes:

Its shows the option while edit the attribute

$value = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($category->getId())->getData('catalog_pdf');

Better way (without loading whole category model):

Mage::getResourceModel('catalog/category')->getAttributeRawValue($category->getId(), "catalog_pdf", Mage::app()->getStore()->getId());

How to Update Date Attribute for All Products in Magento

Credit to @VishwasBhatnagar for the code - I'm just clarifying what I believe the finished code should be, to do all products (the to-and-fro in the comments was getting a bit confusing I think).

require('app/Mage.php'); // this is assuming your script is located in the Magento root dir
Mage::app(); // initiate the Magento engine

$products = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection();

foreach($products as $product)
{
    $product->setNewStock('2000-01-01');
    // this line might not be required - compare results with & without it 
    $product->setNewStockIsFormated(true);
    $product->getResource()->saveAttribute($product, 'new_stock');
}
?>
