I was extending my magento sales order grid and I was having an error with it because of a conflict with the other extension on rewriting the grid.

Entity_id is the PK name for many tables. You should specify the table name as well:

$collection->getSelect()->group('maint_table.entity_id');

you have used 'type' => 'options' and not define options there
