Magento 1.7 – Get Selected Value in Multiselect Dropdown

I have a three table in my database, article category and art_cat

article has the id,name,status of the article

category has id,name,status of the category

art_cat has id,art_id and cat_id in the tables.

I have the values inserted respectively, but in my "article form" my category values are not coming selected. I have a multi select dropdown for the category.
I have a distinct form for "category". that means my "article form" data goes in article table and "category form" data goes in art_cat table.

How can I get the selected value for the category multi select dropdown.
Please somebody help me with this.

During the addField call you can specify the option value. For normal field types this takes a string and will set this as the field value, but for multiple select fields you can specify a comma separated string containing each selected value.

It looks like you are talking about individual product options.
You can get at the info as follows:

For further details refer to Mage_Catalog_Helper_Product_Configuration::getCustomOptions() (used to render the options in the cart) and Mage_Catalog_Model_Product_Type_Abstract::_prepareOptions() (used to prepare the product options for the quote items).

If the only options you are going to have are Male and Female, and you need to be able to filter those by those values, you need to have them not depend on the environment. I mean, if you move your website somewhere else, you might get different ids.
To avoid this you should use a custom source model for your attribute.
Create your own extension and change the source model for your gender attribute like this:

$installer->updateAttribute('catalog_product', 'gender', 'source_model', '[module]/source_gender');

Then create the source model.

Now you can use the value 1 and 2 for filtering because you know they will never change.
