APC – PDU web-interface demo

I've only done this via SNMP set commands and I've only disabled it so the ports DON'T power on after a power failure as I've also been in the power-off/power-on/power-off situation.

snmpset -v1 -c $COMMUNITY $PDU .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12.3.1.2.0 i -1

This tells the outlets NOT to turn on after a power failure. Change the -1 to 60 to turn all of the outlets on after 60 seconds. On the switched models you can also do a staggered start of the outlets in order to avoid a circuit overload situation. I don't have that OID handy.

I'm not entirely clear on the dimensions of your equipment based on your question, but any in-rack PDUs will require at least 1U of rack space. Side-Mount PDUs/CDUs like These (from ServerTech) are zero-U in the rack, but need to be mounted to the side rails somewhere.

The ServerTech products I linked to have remote management & monitoring features (though they vary by model & installed options). I'm sure that at least one model of PDU from APC must also support remote management & monitoring.

If your rack itself is only 2U (where did you acquire such a diminutive beast?) then a PDU is probably overkill - Look instead for a remote power switch type device... -- Original post corrected with correct (24U) rack dimensions
