I have a problem. I had file copy with veeam of my virtual machine on ESXi server, to my local hard disk.
I'd like to open it with vmware workstation 8, but I get message:
The disk …Debian.vmdk has internal consistency that were most likely caused by a host crush or host power failure.
I'd like to know how to fix this problem.
I tried to clone the snapshot before making more changes, just to have a backup, and that failed too.
Cloning failed: reached the host's limit for open files.
Thinking the errors are related, I looked into how many files are actually part of this VM. The list was HUGE.
I have 13 snapshots before the one giving me trouble, so I tried deleting a few of them to reduce the number of files VMware would need to open. This fixed everything. I could have increased the max number of open files, but many of those snapshots were not needed any longer.
The UUID of the disk is in the .vmdk file. For example:

The MAC address can be edited under 'Advanced properties' of your network adapter. It should also be in the .vmx file. I found this is mine:
ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:f3:72:cc"
It's possible that it's only saved there once you edit it though.
If you move your VM to another location VMWare usually asks you if you moved or copied the VM when you start it. If you say you moved it then all ID's stay the same. If you say you copied it then VMWare will change the ID's to prevent conflicts.
