Centos – Squid: what does TCP_MISS/504 mean

I use squid to set up a proxy but the access.log shows thant the status is TCP_MISS/504

TCP_MISS/504 just means that the document hasn't been cached yet, so Squid was grabbing it from the actual source. If you're having a problem, it's probably something else.

Sounds like you need to toy around with your squid ACL rules. I bet you that's the issue in there. Hopefully your squid.conf is well commented so you can figure it out easily enough. I suspect you'll want to take a look at ACL rules that refer to your LAN and HTTP connections.

Squid won’t store the image

The upstream webserver is returning an expiry time in the past, which will cause Squid to immediately consider the object stale.

Expires: Fri, 21 Dec 2012 00:00:00 GMT

That looks like a hardcoded timestamp, you probably want the webserver to return a relative expiry timestamp (e.g. now plus 1 month).
