Configuring SNMP on remote server via MMC

When I go to the properties of the SNMP Service on a Server 2008 R2 server, I see:

Local SNMP Settings

Which is what I expect to see. However, if I do the correct thing and connect from my Windows 7 machine (which has a full set of RSAT installed), I see:

Remote SNMP Settings

which is to say, less than useful. Is there any way I can get the SNMP-specific tabs to display on a remote computer?

What HoplessN00b commented got me thinking - what if I installed the SNMP Service on my local machine:

I agree with KCotreau but I can't comment yet with being a noob so had to write it here instead. The shared folders MMC is the old one that was in 2003 an should allow you to lanuch it after you have created it first. when creating it you will be prompted for admin rights but go through the settings and turn off the need for admin rights and allow users to select the servers. this should work. If it doesnt let us know and I know of an alternative but it requires a bit more work.

Ubuntu – SNMP Access on Ubuntu

Good Morning. Is your snmpd(Not firewall) configured to allow incomming connections ? Try:

nestat -nlpu|grep snmp

is it listening on 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0 Config snmpd:

/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

I am not sure about 8.0.4 ubuntu but in 10+ you have to add

agentAddress udp:0.0.0.0:161

Firewall Has to be opened also in output

iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 161 -j ACCEPT

You try to access the system via the internet or same network
