Grafana: Template variables are not supported in alert queries

I am new to grafana and have just setup my first dashboard with node_eporter_full template downloaded from the official grafana site.

Now I have set up messenger and want to set the first alarm. Unfortunatelly this does not work on any chart. The message I get is "Template variables are not supported in alert queries"

How can I setup an alert. E.g. if CPU is > 90%?

The query used in an alert rule cannot contain any template variables.

Basically you need to create a query for the thing you're specifically interested in, and then you can create an alert for that.

You cannot really use macros for that, because *_url is a configuration field.

The web interfaces try to do some expansion, but can't handle everything.

I'd recommend something like this in apply Service:

action_url = "http://" + host.name + "/test.cgi?check=" + check_command

You can use the Windows "System" object, with the "System Up Time" counter for server up time in seconds. For example, add this to your monitored Windows host's telegraf.conf:

[[inputs.win_perf_counters]]
...
    #####  System  #####
    [[inputs.win_perf_counters.object]]
        ObjectName = "System"
        Counters = ["System Up Time"]
        Instances = ["------"]
        Measurement = "win_system"
