How to find out how many fibre channel port has the Windows Server 2003

O/S: Windows Server 2003. I'm not network manager but was asked to find out how many fibre channel ports has that server. Is it the same as Fibre Channel Adapter shown in Device Manager of Windows? enter image description here

No, that means you [probably] have two FC adapters installed. There could be more that don't have drivers installed for them, there could even be less if someone really screwed something up. Or it could be one of those situations where a single card has 2 ports on it, and both show up as a separate adapter to Windows.

How that translates to the number of FC ports... depends. Adapters can have different numbers of ports. Do the adapters on your server have 1 or 2 ports each?

I'd recommend taking a physical look, rather than just guessing or assuming, but if you're hellbent on doing the latter, you should ifnd out the model of card in there and look up how many ports it has.

Has it got the DNS server installed and did it happen after a reboot?

If not ignore the rest of this, but if so note that there is a bug in W2k3 that the DNS server can grab port 4500. This stops the IPSEC service runing and blocks all network access to and from the server. The immediate fix is to restart DNS then restart the IPSEC service (or of course restart the server). A longer term solution is to add 4500 to the reserved ports in the TCP/IP service parameters.

This refers to SBS, but it applies to standard W2k3 as well. I have been bitten by this several times and the fix described in the KB article works. I now routinely do this on all W2k3 installations.

How to tell when a Scheduled Task was CREATED, in Windows Server 2003

The quickest way I can think of to show the creation time on a "Scheduled Task" entry would be to execute:

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\Tasks\Desktop.ini
ren %SystemRoot%\Tasks\Desktop.ini Desktop.ini.foo
explorer %SystemRoot%\Tasks

This would open the %SystemRoot%\Tasks folder in a "normal" Explorer view and would let you review the times on the files stored there.

When you're done, rename and re-apply attributes to "desktop.ini" to make things normal again:

ren %SystemRoot%\Tasks\Desktop.ini.foo Desktop.ini
attrib +r +s +h %SystemRoot%\Tasks\Desktop.ini

It's a cheap trick, but it should show you the creation time on the task file for the task you're interested in.
