How to manage two users with the same name in AD

I have two users on the network.
One is John Smith. The other John Smith Jr.

How do you as a sys admin set these two users up so they do not conflict in AD(active directory) and or FileMaker?

Just make sure they have different usernames, and you'll be fine. The First/Last name values aren't used for authentication purposes.

Does your filemaker instance authenticate off of Active Directory? If so, the your problem is solved. If not, like AD, just give them unique usernames.

Absolutely. From a computer that's a member of the domain, open a command-prompt and run a:

NET GROUP "group name" /DOMAIN

Unless your administrators have changed the stock permissions on the group object you will be able to view the membership that way.

You can use AD Users and Computers even if you're not an administrator, but this, at least, can be done w/o installing anything.

No this is 100% not supported or working. I have this exact scenario in my environment. Your options are domain rename or creating child domains that have trusts between each other and using resources between the child domains via a two way trust.

Another option is new domain and migrate, which might sound difficult but if it's a small amount of objects it can be done in a few hours with little downtime.
