How to set up date/time on DGS-1500

I have numerous D-Link DGS-1500-28 switches with firmware 1.00.013, 1.10.005 and 2.10.002 on it, and there are no visible option to set up date/time via web- or telnet-interface.

Device uses date/time in logs, but there is no idea, where it obtains it from: now it is different days in 2009 for 1.00.013, in 2011 for 1.10.005 and in 2012 for 2.001.006. The date showing is even not 01/01/YYYY + system uptime, as it could seems to be.

This manual for the DGS-1500-20/28/52/28P switches describes setting the time manually or via SNTP on page 49. Perhaps you just need to upgrade the firmware (seeing as how this manual is for firmware version 2.11.

This:

date +%s

will return the number of seconds since the epoch.

This:

date +%s%N

returns the seconds and current nanoseconds.

So:

date +%s%N | cut -b1-13

will give you the number of milliseconds since the epoch - current seconds plus the left three of the nanoseconds.

and from MikeyB - echo $(($(date +%s%N)/1000000)) (dividing by 1000 only brings to microseconds)

Docker – Container Time & Timezone Issues

The secret here is that dpkg-reconfigure tzdata simply creates /etc/localtime as a copy, hardlink or symlink (a symlink is preferred) to a file in /usr/share/zoneinfo. So it is possible to do this entirely from your Dockerfile. Consider:

ENV TZ=America/Los_Angeles
RUN ln -snf /usr/share/zoneinfo/$TZ /etc/localtime && echo $TZ > /etc/timezone

And as a bonus, TZ will be set correctly in the container as well.

This is also distribution-agnostic, so it works with pretty much any Linux.

Note: if you are using an alpine based image you have to install the tzdata first. (see this issue here)
