Right now we are getting an intermittent error in iLO stating that "Power Supply 1" is failing. The issue is that there are two power supplies, and neither one is clearly labelled as "Power Supply 1." Since it is an intermittent issue, the error comes and goes (but appears resolved in between). We can't really look for an amber LED because right now the server doesn't detect a fault with the PSU. We want to pull the PSU and replace it with a spare we have on site. So, looking at the server from behind, is power supply 1 on the right or on the left?

A few things to check...
- Have you upgraded the controller's firmware to the latest version 2.04? Often times, HP controllers introduce new or improved functionality in the form of firmware updates.
- The Smart Array P600 controller is one of HP's first attempts at SAS/SATA connectivity. It's still a PCI-X card, so it may not be fully compatible with the drives you're using. It's rated for 1.5G SATA (versus the more common 3G and 6G now).
- You're using consumer disks. There could be an issue there.
- I'd recommend upgrading the firmware of your server as well to the most current revision.
- Make sure you're working with current version of the SmartStart CD for Array configuration. Older versions of the software may have problems with that capacity of drive.
- If all else fails, look for a used Smart Array P400 controller. Your server has two PCI Express slots. Those would be better suited to storage controllers than the PCI-X slot you're using now.
- BTW - RAID 10 may make more sense with the size of the disks you're using. Lower rebuild times, better performance, etc.
for people having this same problem (i doubt anyone will experience it) with the exact OA error logs that were repeating with a few seconds between them were:
Blade x Ambient Temeperature Sensor fault...state is DEGRADED.
Blade x is reporting normal health status.
Blade in bay #x status changed from Degraded to OK.
Blade x Ambient Temperature state is OK.
the hp support at our only local hp partner was of no help at all. thankfully after many hours of banging my head against the wall and disecting every inch of storage blade's components, turns out the jack that's apparently that of the temperature sensor was on backwards. boy was that a relief! check the picture to see what i mean. thanks everyone!

From the rear view, power supply #1 on a ProLiant DL360 G7 is the right-most power supply bay.
