Iis – Unable to reach site after IIS upgrade: HTTPS 403 – Forbidden: Access is denied

I get this error when trying to access my site via HTTPS. HTTP works as expected. Had a server that failed and had to move from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.0 on Window Server 2008. Was able to install my SSL, but am unable to reach it via HTTPS now. ASP.NET site Framework 3.5. Would love any ideas on figuring this out. Thanks in advance.

Make sure your application is configured to accept https.

You get to that window by clicking on your website on IIS Manager and selecting "Advanced Settings" on the Actions bar on the right hand side.

You're probably hitting a MaxConnection issue. Take a look at chapter 10 of Improving .NET Application Performance and Scalability, specifically this section on Connections.

You might need to add a section in the machine.config like this:

<connectionManagement>
  <add address="*" maxconnection="12"/>
</connectionManagement>

Which is detailed in the MSDN Library.

Ssl – Multiple SSL Websites running from 1 IIS Site

Its not possible to use more than one certificate per site in IIS 6 and as far as I am aware the same is true of IIS 7.

If your clients can all use a subdomain of the same domain, you could use a wildcard cert (*.domain.com) to do this. If thats not possible, then a SAN cert would allow multiple domains in one certificate,but if your going to need hundreds of domains, its going to get expensive, and you may reach a limit of how many domains your allowed per cert.

There's nothing to stop you having multiple sites in IIS, all pointing to the same content.
