Install Mono on CentOS 5.5 using Yum

apache-2.2mono

I'm trying to install mono on a CentOS 5.5 machine. I assumed I will be using the OpenSUSE packages (i'm not sure thought, there are other options like Debian and Ubuntu). I created a mono.repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d with the content

[mono]
name=novell-mono
baseurl=http://origin-download.mono-project.com/download-stable/openSUSE_11.4/
gpgcheck=0

Now I;m not sure which package to install using yum, yum install mono-stable does nothing, which package i should get, note that ill be running it on with Apache.

On my system I just edited the /etc/sysconfig/httpd file to enable the httpd.worker.

After restarting httpd, I ran "ps -ef | grep -i http" and got this:

[root@localhost httpd]# ps -ef | grep -i http

And in this case the "httpd -V" output is the same as before.

Since the number of running processes matches my configuration options for the prefork and worker modules set in the "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf" I believe it's working as advertised.

I suspect the "httpd -V" is reporting the compiled in defaults. because: server binary names are different. httpd (prefork,default) != httpd.worker (non-default)

Debian – Install Mono ASP.NET on debian

The simple part is

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-mono

It will get you the dependencies.

The tricky part is configuring your virtual hosts and integrate that with mod_mono's registered sites. Somehow in Debian there is going to be a directory under /etc (/etc/mono-apache-server?) with a file which you need to edit. This file looks a lot like an xsp2 config file (but XSP2 is not launched, but mono-apache-server2 depends on xsp2-core).

There are numerous resources on the web that try to guide you, but anytime I configured it I spent around an hour getting things right, and I never really got out of the 'confused' state.
