Is it possible to install pfSense from a USB stick, or will I need an external CD drive?
Best Answer
You can run from it if you're using the embedded version, but if you're looking to do a full install, it's not possible with the stable version, you need a CD drive. There are USB stick equivalents of the iso for 2.0 at snapshots.pfsense.org.
You're asking a content DNS server to do a resolving proxy DNS server's job. Read the documentation, starting with basics like the blurb, and use the correct server software for the correct task.
You're running the embedded version, which stays read-only mounted to not kill flash media with its limited write lifetime. You can mount to read write by running /etc/rc.conf_mount_rw and when finished, mount back to read only with /etc/rc.conf_mount_ro.
If you're running on a hard drive or SSD you can run the full install version, which stays read-write mounted all the time.
