Linux – backup: Incremental backup of really huge directories

I have 2 servers running linux, one of them hosts picture sharing service (currently there's 193G of pictures) and I want to have incremental backup. Copying whole site every time is not an option so I want something like rsync but it should be able to use previous versions of backup and just hardlink up to date files. Is there some existing solution for this?

Standard rsync is missing this feature, but there is a patch for it in the rsync-patches tarball (copy-devices.diff) which can be downloaded from http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/ After appling and recompiling, you can rsync devices with the --copy-devices option.

Yup, use -r:

scp -rp sourcedirectory user@dest:/path

-r means recursive
-p preserves modification times, access times, and modes from the original file.

Note: This creates the sourcedirectory inside /path thus the files will be in /path/sourcedirectory
