Linux – Limit bandwidth per IP address in Squid

I am having Squid 3.1.18 installed. I want to limit the maximum bandwidth any IP can use to 128 Kbps. Is it possible using squid ?

I am not using squid authentication so identifying users and setting limit is not an option. Need some way to limit for local IP addresses connecting to squid to access Web.

If you want to limit the users based on IP addresses only, you don't need to implementation any authentication. You can use delay pools. This will limit the download speed of each IP/subnet according to the configured value(s).

Just to add on the above question.

You could use iptables with user matching to color the packets like so:

iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m owner --uid-owner someuser -j MARK --set-mark 100

And then use 'tc' to limit on a per user basis.

This wont solve the problem the way you purpose. But in a different way, limiting each host to a certain bandwith (not per request, but per host)

acl only128kusers src 192.168.1.0/24
delay_pools 1
delay_class 1 3
delay_access 1 allow only128kusers
delay_access 1 deny all
delay_parameters 1 64000/64000 -1/-1 16000/64000

this specify that all clients have 512kbits to share but a single ip can only use 128kbits.

note that the values for delay_parameters above are in BYTES and not BITS.
