Linux – ‘Stale NFS file handle’ error but no NFS mount present

One virtual machine runnning on Xen host experienced 'Stale NFS file handle' problems and I can't explain it while there is no NFS mount present.

The problem occurs when listing the content on a specific directory:

$ ls -la
ls: cannot access xxx: Stale NFS file handle

The following command returns nothing:

mount -t nfs

Other info:

# cat /etc/debian_version 
5.0.3

# uname -a 
Linux abc 2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 #1 SMP Fri Mar 13 21:39:38 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

With no-NFS problem seems filesystem integrity. Try to check filesystem. It worked for me.

use a 32 bit jre. sun jre 1.6.0 update 16 worked fine for me, as did the 32bit openjdk.

Simply tell firefox to open the jnlp with the 32-bit javaws you install. You may need to run javaws /path/to/your/saved/jnlp to see if there are any 32 bit libraries missing as well. In my case it bitched that it couldn't find libXtst so I just did a yum -y install libXtst.i586 on Fedora 11 and I was working; obviously wiht Ubuntu commands will be a little different, but I'm more or less confident similar steps will get you working...

Missing etc/hosts file !

java.net.UnknownHostException: ubuntu: ubuntu
    at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1353)
    at com.sun.enterprise.util.net.NetUtils.getCanonicalHostName

Simple reason, sometimes should not search for complex problems !
