Linux – sudo problem with STAF

I'm new to Linux. I've just installed the STAF, and I can run STAF with my account, but when I try to run use root account, I get:

sudo: STAF: command not found

Here is some of my machine information:

which sudo

    /usr/bin/sudo

echo $PATH

    /usr/local/staf/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/home/eric/eclipse

What is the explanation? Why can't sudo find the command?

You can set the exempt_group option to tell sudo to keep the PATH for users in that group.

For example, say your user is in the group 'sys'. Add the following to your sudoers file

Defaults exempt_group="sys"

Now your user will not have PATH reset for sudo commands (-E is not needed for this to work).

EDIT: Going to have to note this as a bad answer. It is true that it works, but it has a side effect I didnt notice while playing with it. It also exempts users in that group from having to type their password. Seems you cant get PATH preservation without allowing this. Bit stupid I think...

which is only aware of what's in your path.

Either chances are this installed somewhere like /opt/mysql/bin or elsewhere.

I'd suggest running updatedb && locate bin/mysql to get a more vast coverage of where it could be.

Also, you should confirm it's actually running ps waux |grep mysql - that should also give you where the binaries are if it installed and launched the daemon.
