Linux – Tmux installation problems

hI,
I am trying to install the terminal multiplexer tmux on my Debian Lenny server so that I can have multiple terminals through ssh.

However I have had a lot of difficulty installing it from the debian package, and by compiling it. When I try the package it says something about the wrong version of libc6, and when I compile it I get the following error:

server.o: In function `server_start':
server.c:(.text+0x273): undefined reference to `event_reinit'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [tmux] Error 1

Help would be very much appreciated,

Your packages may be a little different, but on Ubuntu I had to:

sudo apt-get install libevent-1.4-2 libevent-dev libncurses5-dev

Linux – /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ll

The library libl.a is classically the support library for AT&T Lex - it provides a dummy version of yywrap() and main(), and some other support functions. If you are using Flex, then I don't think any library is needed - the code is self-contained (as long as you provide your own version of yywrap; if you don't, use -lfl). So, you probably just need to arrange to remove the '-ll' from the command line.

If that is too hard, then create yourself a file garbage.c containing:

int podunk = 0;

Compile it to garbage.o and create a dummy libl.a:

gcc -c garbage.c
ar r libl.a garbage.o

The linker should pick up this dummy library, find nothing of relevance in it, and continue its merry way onwards.

Linux – Upgrading Debian Etch to Lenny stuck on kernel/libc issue

Try uninstalling the binutils, libc-dev, and locales packages before you install the 2.6 kernel. Those packages should not be necessary for the upgrade, and can be reinstalled afterwards.
