Linux – xrvt/xterm flickers in Ubuntu when using screen

I have xrvt running with the screen command, but it flickers every time I press, say the right arrow key. (It flickers white). Any ideas as to why?

Ps. Gnome terminal is hard to set up with 6×13 condensed bitmap fonts…

This is a default screen behaviour (it flashes instead of beeping your pc-speaker).

Try this while running screen: setenv vbell off

Does the problem go away?

Here's one way:

echo -n cal* > /tmp/screen-exchange
screen -X readbuf    # or press Ctrl-a <
git rm ^a]           # type "git rm" then press Ctrl-a ]

You can change the default keystrokes in screen, but you will encounter the same kind of problems, just with other keystrokes. Byobu makes it easier to setup the basic keystrokes for screen. In byobu, the cycling back in session log with the mouse wheel is activated, too, so you could either use it or see how it's set in /usr/share/byobu/profiles/common.
