Nagios Check_hpjd giving me problems!

When I run the following

[root@host plugins]# ./check_hpjd -H
printer1.mydomain.com : Timeout from
host printer1.mydomain.com

I have Net-snmp installed on my system, I noted that i didn't have net-snmp-utils installed, and then I was able to run

[root@host plugins]# snmpwalk -Os -c
public -v 1 printer1.mydomain.com system

So I know that the printer is working as expected, (as far as SNMP is
concerned). But when I run

[root@host plugins]# ./check_hpjd -H
printer1.mydomain.com -C public Error
in packet ()

I get this error – From what I've tried so far, I know my host can
communicate via SNMP, I know the printer responds via SNMP, so I guess
I'm left to look at the plug-in, which I will be checking up on. I'm
new to SNMP, I am investigating this with my good friend Google search,
but I am on a learning curve here, so please forgive my questions if
they sound stupid,

Snmp configuration giving me timeout, no response

Usually when you get silence like that, especially from a snmpwalk or snmpget, it means that the device isn't getting your query, isn't using the snmp version you think it is, isn't configured to accept queries from your IP address, or isn't accepting your community.

Confirm that snmp is on, that the version and community is correct, that any query-based restrictions permit queries from your IP address, and that you are querying both the device and the part of the MIB you think you are.

A good basic query for most snmp v1 devices is:

# snmpwalk -v 1 -c public $IP .1

...substitute for "public" and $IP as appropriate.

Although it may not be exactly what you want, this is the snmpd.conf file that I use on Linux nodes that are being queried by cacti:

We use check_snmp_process.pl, which does the job nicely for us.
