Nginx – configuring sendmail sender address

Just finished installing sendmail and was able to successfully send an email from the command line. However, the sender address was from root@EquinoX. I want to be able to change this so that the sender is from admin@mydomain.com. How do I do this?

I have changed my /etc/mail/local-host-names
so that the only entry it has now is mydomain.com
I have setup a A record, so that mydomain.com points to the server

UPDATE:
When I restart sendmail I got hostname: Name or service not known, why is this?

I think typically people use the "-f" parameter for example:

sendmail -f me@mydomain.com

Ensure those settings have changed the sendmail.cf file. I have had to battle sendmail configurations before and it takes some patience and understanding. I usually m4 the files for it to regenerate the cf file then restart the sendmail service.

Try these as well:

MASQUERADE_AS(`mydomain.com')dnl
MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(`mydomain.com')dnl
FEATURE(`masquerade_envelope')dnl

Sendmail delivering locally instead of to MTA in MX record

Check to ensure that sendmail is not configured to handle the local domain. Strange vanishing acts can occur if it tries to handle the email locally, but it bounces, but the bounce also bounces.

Must you use sendmail? I've replaced everything with Postfix. It's much easier to handle, IMHO.
