“No package pv available.” on CentOS 6.2 Minimal

I'm trying to install Pipe Viewer on a CentOS 6.2 minimal system.

When I run:

yum install pv

I get:

* base: mirror.thelinuxfix.com
* extras: mirror.atlanticmetro.net
* updates: ftp.usf.edu

No package pv available.
Error: Nothing to do

Do I need to add another repo? If so, which one and how do I add it?

The pv package is available from the RPMForge repository. Follow the instructions at that link to install it.

I'd say that this may not be worth the effort. If disk space isn't an issue and you're not running any extraneous services, there's no real impact or need to create a minimal installation. If anything, it becomes an annoyance when you need certain tools (nmap, lsof, a compiler, etc.)

In the end, my kickstarts are either minimal+packages installed via Puppet or a base+selected package groups:

@ base
@ core
@ compat-libraries
@ mail-server
@ network-server
@ network-file-system-client
@ system-management
@ web-server

Linux – EPEL Repo for CentOS 6 causing error

The correct fix is to update your SSL certificates.

sudo yum upgrade ca-certificates --disablerepo=epel

You need to disable the epel repo so that this command will succeed. After you update your certificates you can use yum normally as EPEL will work again.
