I have a working OWA internally and externally. Users can access OWA externally through https://domainname.com/owa and internally through the IP address. What I want is internal users to access OWA by browsing to https://domainname.com/owa rather than the IP address for obvious easy of use.

There's a dropdown box when you create a new message through OWA - the two options are "HTML" and "plain text". If that box isn't there, there may be a problem with your Client Access server, or someone may have managed to remove it (though I'm not aware of any way to do this).
You can perform a redirect to the new address using IIS.

To use IIS Manager to simplify the Outlook Web Access URL Start the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager snap-in.

In the IIS section, double-click HTTP Redirect.
Click to select the Redirect requests to this destination check box, and then type /owa.

For the new settings to take effect, start a command prompt, and then run the IISReset command.
You can also modify the properties of the virtual directory, but I'm not sure of all the consequences of that.
To use the Exchange Management Console to modify the properties on an Outlook Web Access virtual directory In the Exchange Management Console, locate the virtual directory that you want to modify by using the information in step 2 or step 3.

This is a DNS problem, not a OWA one.
If your firewall/proxy can't handle requests for
domainname.comfrom the inside, then you will need to create a "shadow" zone fordomainname.comin your internal DNS servers, which maps your public names to internal IP addresses.This way,
domainname.comwill map to some public IP address when resolver from the outside, while it will map to your CAS server's internal IP address when resolved from the inside.
