Php – How to upgrade PHP to 5.3 on latest MAMP

Let you try the blow commands.

% pecl download apd-or-whatever
% tar zxvf ***
% cd the-directory
% /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize
% ./configure CFLAGS="-arch i386" --with-php-config="/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/php-config"
% make
% make install

I'm using MAMP1.8.4 with manually compiled PHP5.3.2. In MAMP1.9.x, the paths of phpize and php-config are different.

Installing PHP 5.4.* on Ubuntu 12.04

Simply add the PPA repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5-oldstable

And install it:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install php5

You may need to install add-apt-repository on Ubuntu 12.04. To do so, run the command:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

Other New Versions

For PHP 5.5 (currently 5.5.30) add the PPA repository instead:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5

For PHP 5.6 (currently 5.6.14) add the PPA repository instead:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5-5.6
