Sending mail in localhost:25 with Ssmtp

I already have Ssmtp installed and working in a Centos 5.7 machine with Gmail configured.

I can send mails in th shell without problems.

Now i want to use the ssmtp to allow a web app (installed in the same machine) to send mails but for do this i have to find a way to ssmtp "hears" in the port 25 (or any other).

There is a way to do this? There is another simple alternative to ssmtp who allows to send mail using localhost:25?

For a web app to send mail, I'd recommend just using the "mail" command line. pipe/redirect/print the mail to the input of mail, command line.

Easiest way to do this is to avoid using exim and to use sSMTP which is a lightweight MTA.

All you need to do is install it:

sudo apt-get install ssmtp mailutils

and configure it (edit /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf) to use your Google Mail servers see:

root=noreply@yourdomain.com
mailhub=smtp.gmail.com:587
UseSTARTTLS=yes
UseTLS=yes
AuthUser=youremail@yourdomain.com
AuthPass=password
FromLineOverride=YES

I've been using this set-up for a while now and it just works - It's also nice to not need to be running exim when it's not necessary and let Google's mail servers handle everything for you.

You need the smtpd_sender_restrictions to be:

smtpd_sender_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, check_sender_access hash:/etc/postfix/notfromme

and in /etc/postfix/notfromme you put

foo.com REJECT

then postmap /etc/postfix/notfromme and reload postfix.

Done.
