Ssh – how to make fast SSH X11 forwarding (specifically, making firefox context menu show up quickly)

Remote Firefox over SSH is pretty usable until you try a right click to make context menu show up. It takes about 5 seconds for the context menu to appear. It seems it takes many round trips.

ssh -c blowfish-cbc -C -Y host

I believe with the above command, it's more faster. I heard blowfish-cbc cipher is pretty fast while being secure. Is there anything else I should look?

But then maybe that is just placebo effect. I don't know how to time this 5 seconds event exactly.

There are several ways to do this, the one I prefer is to forward the ssh port:

First, connect to machine B and forward [localPort] to C:22 through B

A$ ssh -L [localPort]:C:22 B

Next, connect to C from A through this newly-created tunnel using [localPort], forwarding X11

A$ ssh -X -p [localPort] localhost

Now we can run X11 programs on C and have them display on A

C$ xclock

[localPort] can be any port that you are not already listening to on A, I often use 2222 for simplicity.

SSH X11 forwarding does not work. Why

You don't specify if X11Forwarding is set to yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on M, which would definitely explain why it's not working.
