Svn – 403 in Response to OPTIONS when updating working copy having full access

There is an SVN repository (single repository) http://example.net/svn

The repository contains several projects (directories):

http://example.net/svn/Project1
http://example.net/svn/Project2

User has full access to Project1 directory and has no access neither to root nor to Project2.

Everything works fine for a while: user checks out http://example.net/svn/Project1, commits and updates it successfully.

But sometimes trying to update leads to the following error:

Command: Update
Error: Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to OPTIONS
Error: request for 'http://example.net/svn'
Finished!

Why does TortoiseSVN request something in the root???

I have noticed that this happens after somebody else committed copy or move operation. Checking out http://example.net/svn/Project1 helps till next time…

The main question: How to set up access rights for user to avoid these errors? Note, it's not an option to grant user any read or write access right on the root directory for security reasons.

This is a bug in Subversion 1.5: Issue 3242. Some move operations were setting revision properties on parents that were unnecessary.

Have you tried upgrading your SVN server?

Svn – TortoiseSVN missing file in update

I also have had the described problem sometimes. Just at the moment, it happened again. Same situation: There were multiple files changed/added/deleted/moved at the SVN server from an SVN client A and SVN client B updated its working copy (using Tortoise SVN). After the update, some of the files which were added from A are not present in the working copy of B, but the repository browser shows them at the correct location at the SVN server. Updating again with Tortoise always claims that everything is at the current revision. Also an "svn up" in the folder where the files are missing says that everything is at the current revision.

I'm using

Tortoise SVN 1.6.6, Build 17493 - 64 Bit

Visual SVN 1.7 (SVN integration into Visual Studio 2008)

Whatever URL you are using (you still didn't provide it) is wrong. If your repo is in /home/ant/svn then your apache conf should look like:

<Location /svn>
  DAV svn
  SVNParentPath /home/ant/svn
  AuthType Basic
  AuthName "Your repository name"
  AuthUserFile /etc/subversion/passwd
  <LimitExcept GET PROPFIND OPTIONS REPORT>
  Require valid-user
  </LimitExcept>

You should then be able to access (via web browser) the repo with

http://servername/svn/nameofrepo

That is assuming you created a repo inside /home/ant/svn. If the repo is called svn and is in /home/ant, then you want

<Location />
  DAV svn
  SVNParentPath /home/ant

and you would access with

http://servername/svn

Basically, I could give you the answer if you:

Gave the exact command you used on the command-line that succeeded
Gave the exact url you are using in Tortoise
Gave the exact command you used to create the repo
