SVN on Ubuntu with Lighttpd web server

I need to install svn on Ubuntu 10.03 and Ubuntu 9.04. On both servers I use lighttpd.

I found some tutorials on internet explaining which packages to install with Apache, but i actually need lighttpd.

This is an old post, but it seems to answer your question directly. Basically, it looks like there's no lighttpd equivalent of mod_dav_svn, which is how Apache allows you to communicate with svn through HTTP.

So the answer is no. Basically, the only solution that will get you as close to what you want, is to proxy lighttpd to an internally run Apache server. Keep in mind, this still requires that you use both lighttpd and Apache simultaneously.

Check your server logs to see what it says at /var/log/lighttpd/access.log. Most important column is the HTTP Status and Transfer size columns. If the status was 200 and the transfer size is XXXbytes, then the transfer had succeeded on lighttpd's side.

It could be a permissions problem. By default, lighttpd runs as user www-data and you need to make sure that that user can read those files that you are loading.
Try loading a static test.html file to see if it is a problem with content. If the text file transfers but not the media files, this might indicate another problem.

Svn – cannot commit svn with dav on ubuntu

You need to change the svn files to be in the www-data group, and make them all group-writable. For example, if the repository is /var/svn, then

sudo chown -R root:www-data /var/svn
sudo chmod -R 775 /var/svn

should do it. (Although, come to think of it, you've probably already figured this out...)
