Tomcat – Apache/Tomcat mod_jk error message 61

I'm seeing spam in the mod_jk.log file, with the following error message:
jk_connect.c (593): connect to 127.0.0.1:8009 failed (errno=61)

Tomcat is running properly, there are no firewalls configured between Apache and Tomcat (they are both running on the same machine), and there is a listener up on 8009. The connector runs properly for several days at a time, before starting to spam the log files with the above message, for any and all new connections.

Once the spam starts, the only way I've discovered to recover from it is to first restart Tomcat, and then restart Apache.

What are the most likely causes for this kind of problem?

this can have multiple reasons:

tomcat is not running
tomcat is running, but no connector for port 8009 is configured
tomcat is running, but a firewall between apache and tomcat does not allow traffic on port 8009 (should not be the case in your situation)
tomcat is running, but not listening on this ip

It turns out that this version (classes12 - quite old) of the Oracle driver had various bugs in it that caused a deadlock (as seen in the TP-Processor2 state quoted above). It didn't become active until we switched to the new environment. Upgrading to the latest version (ojdbc14) has resolved the issue on the primary server.

You generally want your Tomcat Host's appbase="webapps" (default) and have the Context's docBase point to your Web root (docBase="/Users/[my username]/Websites/example.mydev/wwwroot/"). Your Web root will contain a WEB-INF for whichever WAR you're using (ColdFusion/OpenBD/Railo). It sounds like you're using a symlink or something for the WEB-INF dir?

In any case, you can't run requests against 3 different WARs in the same Web root (at least not without some fancy connector stuff--you could let a JRun instance/connector run while having WEB-INF of Railo or OpenBD in the Web root to then use 2 different Apache vhosts to handle... but this all sounds messy:). So, since you can't run them at the same time with this setup, I'm not sure why you're using separate host names?

It's also worth noting that you'll likely need to restart the Tomcat service each time you replace (re-map symlink) the WEB-INF folder.

Finally, if you do have the same Web root (docBase) for all three Tomcat Host entries, I'd imagine this will most certainly cause problems -- this could be the root of your errors, but not sure. Since you want the same Web root for each host, you might as well use an Alias (or just one host), something like this:
