Tomcat – how to shutdown application in tomcat

I have a server running many JAVA application's with tomcat 6.0.18, i need to know how can i scheduele a shutdown of just 'X' application and keep other's running.

I'll appreciate your ideas

or move your mouse to the "Stop" link on the Tomcat Manager Web UI, and look at the status bar you will see the URL to stop that app. You can call it with a script via wget, curl, lynx, ...

The java.io.tmpdir in Tomcat is set to $CATALINA_BASE/temp. You can change it by setting the $CATALINA_TMPDIR environment variable before running startup.sh for Tomcat.

How much you need completely depends on the architecture of your application(s) and what they are requiring. Adding memory is almost always a good idea. It's hard to say if you'll see improvement if you add 2 more apps to the server that are not there now as you'll not have comparable statistics. If you want to see an improvement add the memory prior to adding the additional applications. The parameters you use for JAVA_OPTS are, again, going to depend on the memory requirements of your applications.
