Ubuntu – How to auto start VM on Ubuntu and Vmware workstation 7

Initially i was using window server 2008 and vmware worktation 7.
There i had .bat file and i put at startup folder to start Vms at startup.

I have chnaged my OS to ubuntu . how can i auto start VM in there

vmrun is the correct option. I use the following to start a VMware Workstation VM in the background.

vmrun start "$vmimg"  nogui

where $vmimg is the full path to the vmx file of the VM. The key option that you want is the nogui option so that the VMware Workstation gui doesn't come up.

I don't know about "Ubuntu", but in Linux generally, "iptables" isn't a service - it's a command to manipulate the netfilter kernel firewall. You can "disable" (or stop) the firewall by setting the default policies on all standard chains to "ACCEPT", and flushing the rules.

iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT
iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT
iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT
iptables -F

(You may need to flush other tables, too, such as "nat", if you've used them)

Disabling packet filtering on the host firewall allowed DNS queries to resolve properly. I still have trouble accessing the HTTP services beyond the login page of our intranet but that would be a different issue I imagine.
