Blessings guys… first, sorry for my bad English, my first language is Spanish.

So, I have a website for translations. We translate from English to Spanish (tv shows), the thing is that we have a real time translation system installed by a friend.

So, he explained to me (last year when he installed it) that if the real time server goes down, that the system automatically will reset the real time server but in case that it won't reset, that I have to use the command: supervisorctl restart tusubtrt

So, when I use that command I get: unix:///tmp/supervisor.sock refused connection

And I cant do anything more because I dont know anything of Networking :$

I tried to communicate with him, but I dont have connection with him right now.

Any help?

Sounds like supervisord isn't running. Not sure which distro you are running but try these commands to see if it'll start

service supervisor start

service supervisord start

systemctl start supervisor

systemctl start supervisord

on any of those commands you can replace start with status to see the status of the service and if that might have been the right command

I'd leave an SSH connection open for the next time it starts happening, and then run a tcpdump on the server to see what's happening to the packets. If they're not turning up on the server, then they're being misdirected by the hosting provider or somewhere further up; if they are arriving then something local is refusing the connection. It could be that SSH is actually dying -- check netstat -ltnp for something listening on port 22.

The fact that everything comes back after a few minutes suggests that it could even be some sort of SSH rate-limiting in the firewall (designed to stop brute-force attacks) that's getting in the way ("normal" use of SSH wouldn't generate many SSH connections, but SVN does a lot of SSHing). If that's the case, make sure everyone's got nice strong passwords (or just turn them off and use keys) and then turn the stupid brute-force protection off.

I would suggest the following in addition to the answers already present. Ensure you have some way to restore you're firewall after carefully checking its ruleset.

Disclaimer: if this device is an internet facing machine, this will drop all firewall protection from all interfaces, and could lead to your box getting owned.

# iptables --flush
# iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT
# iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT
# iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT
# /etc/init.d/openssh-server restart

Then retry connection via ssh, if that fails check /var/log/auth.log.

You can also use

# lsof -i TCP:22

to see if the ssh port is opened and what IP address it's listening on.

edit: re: update, that doesn't appear to be ssh related (it seems to be in relation to sudo privilege elevation.

try tail -f /var/log/auth.log while attempting to connect via ssh.

Connection refused mean that the connection was explicitly rejected by either a firewall or the daemon it's self.

A normal connection would look something like this:

Mar 23 13:32:32 <hostname> sshd[20100]: Accepted password for <user> from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port xxxxx ssh2
Mar 23 13:32:32 <hostname> sshd[20102]: (pam_unix) session opened for user <user> by (uid=0)

While an authentication failure will look like this:

Mar 23 13:35:54 <hostname> sshd[20177]: Failed password for <user> from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port xxxxx ssh2

If it were blocked by sshd for some reason, that will be eluded to in the auth log, if it were blocked by the firewall (note the firewall may be on the host, client or somewhere in between) you'll see nothing.

Get back to us if that's the case, from there it'll be tcp dump on the client, server and any intermediary routers.
