1. Get a USB Thumbdrive between 4-32GB.
If the drive is larger than 32GB, Windows cannot format it as FAT32, so an alternate utility must be used. Windows can still read FAT32 partitions larger than 32GB, though some devices cannot.
2. Run cmd.exe as administrator and enter the following commands followed by Enter
diskpartlist diskselect disk # (where # is your USB drive as determined from step 2)clean (This step will delete all data on your flash drive!)create partition primaryactiveformat fs=fat32 quickassignlist volumeexitbootsect.exe /nt60 F: /mbr (where F: is the drive letter of your USB drive as reported by list volume)
3. Copy the Windows files from the ISO or other source using robocopy
robocopy.exe E:\ F:\ /MIR
where E:\ is the source and F:\ is the destination. Drag-and-drop or copy/paste can also be used, if you know what you're doing.
Configure your PC to boot from the USB drive
In some machines the USB thumbdrive will appear to the BIOS as any other hard drive. You need to muck with the boot sequence to place the thumbdrive higher in the boot order than the local hard drive.
Note that after you do this you might
want to reset the boot order in order
to ensure that BitLocker doesn't
detect boot changes based on the fact
that the thumdrive is missing if it
was there when you encrypted your
drive.
For Git Bash
If you are running msysgit (I am assuming you are) and are looking to run Git Bash (I recommend it over TortoiseGit, but I lean to the CLI more than GUI now), you need to figure out what your home directory is for Git Bash by starting it then type pwd (On Windows 7, it will be something like C:\Users\phsr I think). While you're in Git Bash, you should mkdir .ssh.
After you have the home directory, and a .ssh folder under that, you want to open PuTTYgen and open the key (.ppk file) you have previously created. Once your key is open, you want to select Conversions -> Export OpenSSH key and save it to HOME\.ssh\id_rsa. After you have the key at that location, Git Bash will recognize the key and use it.
Note: Comments indicate that this doesn't work in all cases. You may need to copy the OpenSSH key to Program Files\Git\.ssh\id_rsa (or Program Files (x86)\Git\.ssh\id_rsa).
For TortoiseGit
When using TortoiseGit, you need to set the SSH key via pacey's directions. You need to do that for every repository you are using TortoiseGit with.

Reboot again. (cold Boot) Press F9 to enter the RBSU Check, if the „USB Boot Support“ is enabled. If not, enable it. Go to „System Options“ > „USB Options“ > „Removable Flash Media Boot Sequence“ and select the proper boot device there. Then select “Standard Boot Order” (IPL) and choose to start from “USB Drive Key (C:)” first.
