How do I Authenticating Your Client correctly with google?
I'm following this tutorial
https://developers.google.com/android/guides/client-auth

I copy this text into my command prompt –

keytool -exportcert -list -v \
-alias androiddebugkey -keystore %USERPROFILE%.android\debug.keystore

I get this message back "-alias is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

What am doing wrong?

The copied command shouldn't contain the backslash after -v and it must be placed in one single line, like this:

keytool -exportcert -list -v -alias androiddebugkey -keystore %USERPROFILE%\.android\debug.keystore

Besides you have to change the %USERPROFILE% location in the command to the path where the .android directory located. (Maybe it is here: C:\User\YourUserName\ , but you have to check it if it's there)

You can force Android to hide the virtual keyboard using the InputMethodManager, calling hideSoftInputFromWindow, passing in the token of the window containing your focused view.

Note: If you want to do this in Kotlin, use: context?.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE) as InputMethodManager

Android – ERROR:’keytool’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Check that the directory the keytool executable is in is on your %PATH% environment variable.

For example, on my Windows 7 machine, it is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin, and my %PATH% variable looks like C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\ (and many other entries)
