C# – How to make WinForms UserControl fill the size of its container

I am trying to create a multilayout main screen application. I have some buttons at the top that link to the main section of the application (e.g. management window for each entity in the Model)

Clicking any of these button displays the associated UserControl in a Panel. The Panel holds the UserControls that in turn holds the UI.

The WinForms UserControl does not have the Anchor or Dock property.

I have tried setting property of UserControl

AutoSize=True

And

private void ManageUsersControl_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
        this.Width = this.Parent.Width;
        this.Height = this.Parent.Height;
}

But these did not work.
Note: I load this control dynamically at runtime

Try setting the Dock property to Fill:

private void ManageUsersControl_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
        this.Dock = DockStyle.Fill;
}

I would also set AutoSize to the default, I believe is False. See how that works ...

I've defined the following property as we use this often in unit testing.

    get
    {
        string codeBase = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().CodeBase;
        UriBuilder uri = new UriBuilder(codeBase);
        string path = Uri.UnescapeDataString(uri.Path);
        return Path.GetDirectoryName(path);
    }
}

The Assembly.Location property sometimes gives you some funny results when using NUnit (where assemblies run from a temporary folder), so I prefer to use CodeBase which gives you the path in URI format, then UriBuild.UnescapeDataString removes the File:// at the beginning, and GetDirectoryName changes it to the normal windows format.

C# – How to make a textbox that only accepts numbers

Two options:

Use a NumericUpDown instead. NumericUpDown does the filtering for you, which is nice. Of course it also gives your users the ability to hit the up and down arrows on the keyboard to increment and decrement the current value.

Handle the appropriate keyboard events to prevent anything but numeric input. I've had success with this two event handlers on a standard TextBox:

    if (!char.IsControl(e.KeyChar) && !char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) &&
        (e.KeyChar != '.'))
    {
            e.Handled = true;
    }

    // only allow one decimal point
    if ((e.KeyChar == '.') && ((sender as TextBox).Text.IndexOf('.') > -1))
    {
        e.Handled = true;
    }
}

You can remove the check for '.' (and the subsequent check for more than one '.') if your TextBox shouldn't allow decimal places. You could also add a check for '-' if your TextBox should allow negative values.

If you want to limit the user for number of digit, use: textBox1.MaxLength = 2; // this will allow the user to enter only 2 digits
