As of jQuery 1.7 you should use jQuery.fn.on
with the selector parameter filled:
$(staticAncestors).on(eventName, dynamicChild, function() {});
Explanation:
This is called event delegation and works as followed. The event is attached to a static parent (staticAncestors
) of the element that should be handled. This jQuery handler is triggered every time the event triggers on this element or one of the descendant elements. The handler then checks if the element that triggered the event matches your selector (dynamicChild
). When there is a match then your custom handler function is executed.
Prior to this, the recommended approach was to use live()
:
$(selector).live( eventName, function(){} );
However, live()
was deprecated in 1.7 in favour of on()
, and completely removed in 1.9. The live()
signature:
$(selector).live( eventName, function(){} );
... can be replaced with the following on()
signature:
$(document).on( eventName, selector, function(){} );
For example, if your page was dynamically creating elements with the class name dosomething
you would bind the event to a parent which already exists (this is the nub of the problem here, you need something that exists to bind to, don't bind to the dynamic content), this can be (and the easiest option) is document
. Though bear in mind document
may not be the most efficient option.
$(document).on('mouseover mouseout', '.dosomething', function(){

// occurs on elements that match '.dosomething'

Any parent that exists at the time the event is bound is fine. For example
$('.buttons').on('click', 'button', function(){

I am afraid that this is a well-known bug/feature of the FileSystemWatcher
class. This is from the documentation of the class:
You may notice in certain situations that a single creation event generates multiple Created events that are handled by your component. For example, if you use a FileSystemWatcher component to monitor the creation of new files in a directory, and then test it by using Notepad to create a file, you may see two Created events generated even though only a single file was created. This is because Notepad performs multiple file system actions during the writing process. Notepad writes to the disk in batches that create the content of the file and then the file attributes. Other applications may perform in the same manner. Because FileSystemWatcher monitors the operating system activities, all events that these applications fire will be picked up.
Now this bit of text is about the Created
event, but the same thing applies to other file events as well. In some applications you might be able to get around this by using the NotifyFilter
property, but my experience is says that sometimes you have to do some manual duplicate filtering (hacks) as well.

The problem with Tanvi's approach is you need to catch all source of manual check or uncheck. Not that there's too many(it's only from mouse click and from user pressing spacebar), but you have to consider invoking a refactored event from MouseClick and KeyUp(detecting the spacebar)
It's more neat for a CheckBox(any control for that matter) to be agnostic of the source of user input(keyboard, mouse, etc), so for this I will just make the programmatic setting of CheckBox really programmatic. For example, you can wrap the programmatic setting of the property to an extension method:
Using this approach, your code can respond neatly to both user's mouse input and keyboard input via one event only, i.e. via CheckChanged. No duplication of code, no need to subscribe to multiple events (e.g. keyboard, checking/unchecking the CheckBox by pressing spacebar)
