How do I generate a movie using ffmpeg using a single image (image1.png) for a duration of 15 seconds with a specific resolution so when I play the video, the image will appear on screen for 15 seconds.

ffmpeg -loop 1 -i image.png -c:v libx264 -t 15 -pix_fmt yuv420p -vf scale=320:240 out.mp4

The -t 15 makes it 15 seconds long.
The -vf scale=320:240 sets the width/height.

Rotate 90 clockwise:

ffmpeg -i in.mov -vf "transpose=1" out.mov

For the transpose parameter you can pass:

0 = 90CounterCLockwise and Vertical Flip (default)
1 = 90Clockwise
2 = 90CounterClockwise
3 = 90Clockwise and Vertical Flip

Use -vf "transpose=2,transpose=2" for 180 degrees.

Make sure you use a recent ffmpeg version from here (a static build will work fine).

Note that this will re-encode the audio and video parts. You can usually copy the audio without touching it, by using -c:a copy. To change the video quality, set the bitrate (for example with -b:v 1M) or have a look at the H.264 encoding guide if you want VBR options.

Replace audio

ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i audio.wav -map 0:v -map 1:a -c:v copy -shortest output.mp4

This example uses -c:v copy to stream copy (mux) the video. No re-encoding of the video occurs. Quality is preserved and the process is fast.
- If your input audio format is compatible with the output format then change -c:v copy to -c copy to stream copy both the video and audio.
- If you want to re-encode video and audio then remove -c:v copy / -c copy.
The -shortest option will make the output the same duration as the shortest input.

Mixing/combining two audio inputs into one

Use video from video.mkv. Mix audio from video.mkv and audio.m4a using the amerge filter:

ffmpeg -i video.mkv -i audio.m4a -filter_complex "[0:a][1:a]amerge=inputs=2[a]" -map 0:v -map "[a]" -c:v copy -ac 2 -shortest output.mkv

Generate silent audio

You can use the anullsrc filter to make a silent audio stream. The filter allows you to choose the desired channel layout (mono, stereo, 5.1, etc) and the sample rate.
