Date format with adobe flex

I have a date and I would like to format the date like that:
YYYYMMDD HHMMSS
so for today it's
20100304 173000

But when I'm doing this:

var todayStr:String = today.getFullYear()+today.getMonth()+today.getDay()+today.getHours()+today.getMinutes();

the problem is for March getMonth() sent "3" and I would like "03". There is the same problem with the day.

How I can do?

You can use a DateFormatter. Have a look at this : Dateformatter @ adobe

var formatter : DateFormatter;
formatter = new DateFormatter();
formatter.formatString = "YYYYMMDD HHNNSS";
formatter.format(dateInstance);

beware of the 'N' used for the minutes

This is not a leap year problem, but rather a daylight savings time problem.

To correct the code to account for DST, you need to look at the timezoneOffset of both dates to determine if the date range is spanning a DST boundary.

var adjustment:Number = ( startDate.timezoneOffset - endDate.timezoneOffset ) * 60 * 1000;
_returnValue = endDate.time - startDate.time + adjustment;

This will get the difference between the two time zones (in minutes), convert that value to milliseconds, and then apply the timezone difference to the millisecond difference to "cancel out" the DST boundary.

Naturally, when both numbers are in the same time zone, the adjustment value becomes 0 and the time values are not adjusted.

The Date class in Flex as far, as my experiences go, is not very versatile. My hunch is that this is by no means possible with the regular framework capabilities.

However, if the date does not need to be changed after the user has input it, you might just want to save it as String and only create a temporary ArrayCollection of Dates for displaying them. This way you don't need to worry about the format changing because you're saving the original value.

How are you parsing the dates anyway? I mean that are you finding out the format yourself with RegExps or such, or using the parse method of the Date class?
