Iphone – Set textbox focus in mobile safari

Hey, I was wondering how to set the focus to a text box in Mobile Safari.

I've tried document.myForm.myTextArea.focus() which works in regular Safari, but it does not seem to work in Mobile Safari.

To clarify, I want to set focus to a text box as soon as the user loads a page, and have the iPhone keyboard pop up.

Just found this previous post stating this is a bug in webkit. Sorry for not doing a more thorough search.

This seems to be the right thing to do, according to the Safari HTML Reference:

<meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=no">

If you disable this but still want telephone links, you can still use the "tel" URI scheme.

Apparently there is a bug with mobile Safari and rich text edit controls. While trying to use the Zoho online word processor on my iPhone I found the below info from the Zoho FAQ.

I can't create or edit documents on my iPhone, the keyboard doesn't show up when opening iZoho on iPhone. What's the problem?

It is an issue with the iPhone as the safari browser doesn't seem to recognize the rich text editor area and hence the keyboard isn't appearing. This is not an iZoho specific problem as all the applications that use a WYSIWYG editor face the same issue. We hope that Apple will address this issue soon and come up with the next version of iPhone's Safari that supports rich text editing. As a workaround, we may give a plain text editor for users to edit/create their documents if this isn't corrected in Safari's next version.
