Java – no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path

So I've been plagued by this issue, whenever I try to run my app in eclipse, I get this error.

2011-02-23 09:55:08,388 ERROR (com.xxxxx.services.factory.ServiceInvokerLocal:21) - 
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path

I've tried following the steps I found here with no luck. I've tried this on a XP VM as well as windows 7 (although in win 7 I get a different error, below)

I've made sure my oracle client was ok (by running TOAD) and I also re-added the classes12.jar / ojdbc14.jars to my WEB-INF/lib folder taken directly from my %ORACLE_HOME% folder (also re-added them to the lib path). I've also tried just adding the ojdbc14.jar without the classes12.jar. Any suggestions appreciated.

In the XP VM I have my PATH variable set to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\bin;C:\ORACLE\product\10.2.0.1\BIN. I'm using Tomcat server 5.0

I agree with the advice you've gotten in the comments to use the thin driver instead of the OCI driver if you can. It is simpler and it should bypass the problem you're having.

If you do need the OCI driver for some reason, your problem is that the DLLs are not on your Java library path. This is separate from the classpath that is used to locate class definitions. The clues here are (a) the fact that the error references java.library.path, and (b) the fact that you are getting an UnsatisfiedLinkError rather than a ClassNotFoundException.

You would need to set your java.library.path property to include the location of the DLLs, or add the location of the DLLs to the Windows PATH, in order for Java to locate them.

Java – Tomcat6 ignores web-inf/lib

The stacktrace tells that you've created a DataSource as <Resource> in Tomcat's side. In that case, the JDBC driver JAR file really needs to be put in Tomcat's side as well as it's Tomcat who manages the DataSource, not your webapp. Drop it in Tomcat/lib and this exception should disappear. You could also drop it in an external folder and add its path to Tomcat's common classpath as definied by common.loader property in /conf/catalina.properties file.

Please note that you don't need to load the driver manually. Just grab the DataSource and then get the Connection from it.

Oracle – JDBC Driver class not found: oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver

I know 2 ways of turning Java app into Windows service and both do not use CLASSPATH. One is Java Service Wrapper by Tanuki Software. This tool uses wrapper.conf where you can show directories with .jar libraries:

wrapper.java.classpath.1=c:\jars\*
wrapper.java.classpath.2=myservice.jar

Second tool I know is JSL: Java Service Launcher. In this tool there is jsl.ini where you put command line to run your server. It can use java with -cp option to show location of .jar libraries:

AXIS_LIBS=d:\axis2-1.5.4\lib\*
CLASSPATH=.;%MY_LIBS%;%AXIS_LIBS%
export = CLASSPATH
...

[java]
...
cmdline = -Dfile.encoding=utf8 -cp %CLASSPATH% example.my.server

In both configuration you can use * to add all .jar files or you can show those files one by one (just like in CLASSPATH).

At first you should know what Windows is trying to execute. Check it in the service properties page. Then try to localize its configuration. If it uses one of tools I know then you know what to change. Other tools probably have similar configuration.
