Java – Primefaces tabview: set Active Index after some counting

I've got a tab view that contains four tabs and three commandButtons(count,add to Table, export to Word) over them.

I input some text data in first tab, some numeric data in second tab, then when I am pressing first commandButton(count), my programm do some countings, but I can't set Active Index on third Tab where I show result of counting.

Backing bean
public int getActiveTabIndex() {
return activeTabIndex;
}

public void setActiveTabIndex(int activeTabIndex) {
    this.activeTabIndex = activeTabIndex;
}

public void onTabChange(TabChangeEvent event) {
    TabView tv = (TabView) event.getComponent();
    this.setActiveTabIndex(tv.getActiveIndex());
    System.out.println("###### ACtive tab: "+activeTabIndex);
}

But it is not working for me, do you have any idea: how i can set third tab activeIndex=2 after countings?

This is a way to get it:

// View

    <h:form id="yourForm">
        ...
        <p:commandButton value="Go to tab 3" action="#{yourBackingBean.doSomeCounting('2')}"
                         update="tabView"/>
        ...
    </h:form>

then inside your counting method:

// BackingBean

public void doSomeCounting(String tabIndex){
    // your counting logic
    try {
        activeTabIndex = Integer.parseInt(tabIndex);
        System.out.println("showing tab: "+activeTabIndex);
    } catch (NumberFormatException e) {}
}

If I understand correctly what you're intending.

Primefaces tabView activeIndex issue

Going by the PrimeFaces ShowCase example, if you give each tab an id:

<p:tabView tabChangeListener="#{indexBean.onTabChange}" >
    <p:tab title="tab 0" id="tab0"></p:tab>
    <p:tab title="tab 1" id="tab1" ></p:tab>
    <p:tab title="tab 2" id="tab2"></p:tab>               
</p:tabView>

you can get that tab id in the tabChangeListener.

public void onTabChange(TabChangeEvent event) {       
    System.out.println("tab id = " + event.getTab().getId());
}

Then you'll know which tab was selected.

Edit:

There is an open PrimeFaces issue 1640 TabView: Wrong activeIndex in TabChangeListener, always 0 on the problem you are having.

Edit 2:

With PrimeFaces 5.0 and up the tabChangeListener is no longer available on the tabView element but should be used via an explicit ajax tag with a tabChange event.

      <p:ajax event="tabChange" listener="#{analysisBean.onTabChange}"/>

Also you can directly get index of tab:

public void onTabChange(TabChangeEvent event) {
    activeIndex = ((TabView) event.getSource()).getIndex();
}

with all these changes, activeIndex works properly.

Java – How do i set the active tab in Primefaces tabView

If you want to do this.You can't use the url in the p:menuitem because we must call a method to changing the tabindex before skipping to the prefil.xhtml page. If you use the url, the method will be invoked after we skip to the prefil.xhtml page .

First, you can use the action field of the p:menuitem, the method returns the address you want to skip to:

<p:menubar autoSubmenuDisplay="true">  
    <p:submenu label="Perfil">  
        <p:menuitem value="Editar" action="#{some.editar}" ajax="false"/>  
        <p:menuitem value="Ver" action="#{some.ver}" ajax="false" />  
    </p:submenu>  
</p:menubar>

These two method do something to change the tabindex like this:

public String editar() {
    tabindex = 0;
    return "verPerfil";
}

public String ver() {
    tabindex = 1;
    return "verPerfil";
}

Then the p:tabView has an attribute named activeIndex. It is the index of the active tab, its default value is 0. So you can do as follows:

<p:tabView dynamic="true" activeIndex="#{some.tabindex}" >
    <p:tab id="ver" title="Ver perfil">
        <ui:include src="verPerfil.xhtml" />
    </p:tab>
    <p:tab id="editar" title="Editar perfil">   
        <ui:include src="editarPerfil.xhtml" />
    </p:tab>
</p:tabView>

Then each menuitem will activate the corresponding tab.
