Javascript – Request-Promise throws “no auth mechanism defined” using async/await

I was just trying out async/await with request-promise and ran into this error:

It is an API endpoint that I built recently that's supposed to create a new user in MongoDB. It uses Basic Auth provided by Passport strategy, and I've tested with Postman that it works. I'm not exactly sure why this error is being thrown.

Edit: I should probably also add that I'm using node 8.2.1 and npm 5.3.0.

Solved for me by changing from:

auth: { Bearer: token }

to:

auth: { bearer: token }

Note the case difference on 'bearer'.

Your sleep function does not work because setTimeout does not (yet?) return a promise that could be awaited. You will need to promisify it manually:

    return fn(...args);
}

Btw, to slow down your loop you probably don't want to use a sleep function that takes a callback and defers it like this. I recommend:

which lets the computation of parents take at least 5 seconds.

Javascript – Call async/await functions in parallel

You can await on Promise.all():

await Promise.all([someCall(), anotherCall()]);

To store the results:

let [someResult, anotherResult] = await Promise.all([someCall(), anotherCall()]);

Note that Promise.all fails fast, which means that as soon as one of the promises supplied to it rejects, then the entire thing rejects.

Promise.all([happy('happy', 100), sad('sad', 50)])

If, instead, you want to wait for all the promises to either fulfill or reject, then you can use Promise.allSettled. Note that Internet Explorer does not natively support this method.

Promise.allSettled([happy('happy', 100), sad('sad', 50)])

Note: If you use Promise.all actions that managed to finish before rejection happen are not rolled back, so you may need to take care of such situation. For example if you have 5 actions, 4 quick, 1 slow and slow rejects. Those 4 actions may be already executed so you may need to roll back. In such situation consider using Promise.allSettled while it will provide exact detail which action failed and which not.
