I have multiples tables delegated to a UIViewController. In IOS4 I used the function: (UIView *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section to change the background of some table header section. In those that do not have sections, I return nil and all works fine.

In IOS5 if I return nil, the system puts one default header section. How do I hide the header section in the tables that I have only one section?

Per the release notes, your UITableViewDelegate MUST now return 0.0 from tableView:heightForHeaderInSection:

- (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
    return 0.0;
}

Seems like a real pain. I don't know why they changed this, as everyone relies on the prior behavior - but they must have their reasons.

All you have to do is set the selection style on the UITableViewCell instance using either:

Objective-C:

cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;

[cell setSelectionStyle:UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone];

Swift 2:

cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyle.None

Swift 3 and 4.x:

cell.selectionStyle = .none

Further, make sure you either don't implement -tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: in your table view delegate or explicitly exclude the cells you want to have no action if you do implement it.

The way I solved this problem is to adjust the contentOffset according to the contentInset in the UITableViewControllerDelegate (extends UIScrollViewDelegate) like this:

- (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)scrollView {
       CGFloat sectionHeaderHeight = 40;
   if (scrollView.contentOffset.y<=sectionHeaderHeight&&scrollView.contentOffset.y>=0) {
       scrollView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-scrollView.contentOffset.y, 0, 0, 0);
   } else if (scrollView.contentOffset.y>=sectionHeaderHeight) {
       scrollView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-sectionHeaderHeight, 0, 0, 0);
   }
}

Only problem here is that it looses a little bit of bounce when scrolling back to the top.

{NOTE: The "40" should be the exact height of YOUR section 0 header. If you use a number that is bigger than your section 0 header height, you'll see that finger-feel is affected (try like "1000" and you'll see the bounce behaviour is sort of weird at the top). if the number matches your section 0 header height, finger feel seems to be either perfect or near-perfect.}
