R – Any other preprocessor directives in VBScript/Classic ASP

The only pre-process directive that I know about in VBScript / Classic ASP is the #include. I don't know if that is the official name but I'm basically looking for code that can execute code or other instructions before the general VBScript.

Are there any other such directives in VBScript? Such as #If or something?

I'd like to be able to conditionally include or exclude a certain include file.

ADO is an excellent way to access a database in VBScript/Classic ASP.

Dim db: Set db = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
db.Open "yourconnectionstring -> see connectionstrings.com"

One caveat is that if you are returning a MEMO field in a recordset, be sure you only select ONE MEMO field at a time, and make sure it is the LAST column in your query. Otherwise you will run into problems. (Reference: http://lists.evolt.org/archive/Week-of-Mon-20040329/157305.html )

Php – Encrypt in VBScript/ASP Classic, Decrypt in PHP

Assuming the string is making its way between the servers via http then use https to send the string. That way you don't have to do the encryption/decryption, thats done for you by SSL.
